Methodology

Every US-listed large cap whose regular dividend has risen in each of at least the last 25 complete calendar years, by our own dividend record. That is the test S&P applies when it builds its Dividend Aristocrats index, applied here to the whole large-cap universe rather than to S&P 500 members only, so the list holds ADRs and non-members the index leaves out and omits nothing for a committee's reasons. A streak is counted only as far back as our record goes — 1995 for most long-lived payers, a few years earlier for some — so a plus sign marks a streak that reaches the start of its record and is in truth longer: Procter & Gamble's and Johnson & Johnson's run past sixty. A year counts as a raise when its last regular payment exceeds the prior year's; specials and spin-off distributions are excluded.

Performance columns are price returns: the change in the split-adjusted share price, the way quote screens report it, through the latest print during the session. Dividends are not reinvested. Fundamentals come from company filings via our EDGAR pipeline. Past performance does not predict future returns; this is not investment advice.

FAQ#

Which stocks have raised their dividend for 25 years or more?
30 US-listed large caps have raised the dividend in each of at least the last 25 complete calendar years by our record: SPGI (38+ years), PPG (38+ years), PG (34 years), CSL (30+ years), BRO (30+ years), SHW (30+ years), ABT (30+ years), NEE (30+ years), ATO (30+ years), GWW (30+ years), APD (30+ years), WMT (30+ years) and others in the table.
Why do so many streaks end in a plus sign?
A streak can only be counted as far back as our dividend record goes, which is 1995 for most long-lived payers and a few years earlier for some. 23 of the 30 have raised in every complete year of their record, so the plus sign marks a streak that is longer than shown — Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson have raised for more than sixty years running.
Which 25-year dividend raiser has the highest yield?
Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (EPD) yields the most of the group, about 6.28%, with a streak of 27+ years.
Is this the Dividend Aristocrats list?
No. S&P's Dividend Aristocrats index applies the same 25-year test but only to S&P 500 members, with size and liquidity screens and a committee. This list applies the test to every US-listed large cap in our own dividend record, so it includes ADRs and non-members the index leaves out. The streak is measured on regular payments only, in complete calendar years.
