Total return: dividends reinvested. During the session it counts a dividend going ex today once it is on record; the nightly update corrects anything it missed. 21 of 1215 stocks have no 1Y figure and are left out. Not investment advice.

Methodology#

Each period is a trailing window ending on the latest settled close, the same windows the quote pages and the screener show, and during the session the live price moves every figure. Total return reinvests dividends; price return is the price change alone; today is the regular session's move. A whole-year window also reads as a rate compounded annually (CAGR), and a name listed inside the period is ranked on its return since its first close on record, with the cell saying since when. SNDK leads stocks over the last year at +822.3%. Not investment advice.

FAQ#

What is the best-performing stock over the last year?
Sandisk (SNDK) is the best-performing of 1194 stocks over the last year: +822.3% total return.
Which S&P 500 stock has the highest 10-year return?
NVIDIA (NVDA) is the best-performing of 485 S&P 500 stocks over the last 10 years: 130x total return, +62.7% a year compounded (CAGR).
What does CAGR mean here?
The compound annual growth rate: the single yearly rate that, compounded over the whole period, gives the cumulative return shown. A stock up 300% over 10 years compounded at about 14.9% a year. Ranking by CAGR and by cumulative return give the same order for one period; the column is a second reading of the same figure.
Do these returns include dividends?
By default, yes: total return reinvests every dividend, measured over our own adjusted closes, and the Price return toggle shows the price change alone. Today's figure is the session's price move in either case.
What about a stock listed more recently than the period?
It is ranked on its return since its first close on record, and the cell says since when — a 20-year board includes a company that listed 15 years ago, with a lower cumulative figure and its CAGR over the actual 15 years. A name with less than half the period behind it is left out, since a figure true of two years is no answer to a ten-year question; the line under the table says how many names that is.
Why do some gains read as a multiple, like 12.4x?
From +1,000% a cumulative gain is shown as a multiple of the starting value: 12.4x means $1 became $12.40 (a gain of +1,140%). Smaller gains and every loss stay percents, and the CAGR is always a percent.
Which stocks and ETFs are included?
All stocks means the names the site's lists admit: a company of either price feed whose filed market cap is at or above the smallest current S&P 500 member's. The index universes are the tracking funds' current constituents. All ETFs are the funds with live prices; regular ETFs exclude leveraged and inverse funds, which have their own universe because a daily-reset fund's multi-year return means something different.
