What the Dow Jones Industrial Average's members keep of every dollar of revenue — aggregate net income ÷ aggregate revenue, back to FY2007. Rising margin is why earnings have grown faster than sales.
Both sides are summed over today's members, so this is the margin of the current index, not of whoever was in it at the time — composition change is part of what moves the line. Members without a clean revenue line (most financials) are excluded from both the numerator and the denominator.
